Phillips began to play professionally at the age of twelve in his father's (Sid Phillips) Dixieland band for four years. He was then offered the chance to play in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. He quickly became a sought-after session player
he also did some awesome drumming on Mike Oldfield's album
MIKE OLDFIELD - "CRISES" (listen to the drumming 16:30 - 18:30)
1992-2014 he was the drummer for TOTO but also a session musician for sooo many others!Steve Lukather and Los Lobotomys (Candyman), Jeff Beck, Whitesnake, Jack Bruce, David Gilmour, Frank Zappa,[5] Brian Eno, Duncan Browne, Toyah, Mike Oldfield, Jon Anderson, Bonnie Tyler, Trevor Rabin, Gary Moore, 10cc, Mick Jagger, PhD, Joe Satriani, Russ Ballard, Mike Rutherford, Phil Manzanera, John Wetton, flamenco guitarist Juan Martin, Asia, Stanley Clarke, Jimmy Earl, Derek Sherinian, Nik Kershaw, Gordon Giltrap, Camel, Jordan Rudess and Tears For Fears.
And the work with Hiromi Uehara and bassist Anthony Jackson as part of the Hiromi Trio Project is just amazing melodic drumming!
All his solo albums are real jazz fusion treats with just great drumming.

I also like that he is using is left hand in an open playing style like Dennis Chambers and others (not crossing arms when playing stuff on the left side like the hi-hat).
Also olove that he uses a hanging bassdrum...I was really enjoying myself a couple of years ago when I finaly got my own:-)
He is one of my heroes snce childhood. He, Billy Cobham and Dennsi Chambers and Neil Pert.
enjoy!
